We think you should give us all your money. But it's not for us. While we would very much enjoy that cause, we have one even better.
While I know we will feel an immense sense of accomplishment and victory when we arrive at our destination, we also want this trip to be about more than just us. So we decided to use this trip to raise money for someone who needs it more than we do. We wanted to find someone in the Sioux Lookout area (our destination) that could use donations. After asking Galen about needs there, we settled on Ashawaabic Ministries.
Ashawaabic Ministries is run by Morley and Reta Beardy. They provide support for survivors of suicide with dealing and healing for their loss. Each year they host a Memorial Gathering in memory of their daughter Ruth Ann. They host the memorial gathering in May and it is planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Beardys invite speakers and musicians to have workshops and there is time for singing planned each day. The focus is Suicide Awareness & Prevention and Recovery. It is also a support for those families that have lost loved ones to suicide. This ministry is supported entirely by donations, and we would like to help them.
And here's where you come in. We are "selling" our miles to raise money for this organization. By clicking on the Donate button on this post or on the right side of this page, you can buy miles for $5.00 each, and we will see if we can make our route reach Sioux Lookout by the time we leave! Every penny you give will be passed on to Ashawaabic Ministries.

ReplyDeleteYep, we can even get past Goshen! If you go to the top of the page and click on "Donation Info", I'm keeping track of our progress on there. There's a map of the whole thing, and a close-up one. If you click on the last map, you can see it better, and see how far we can go by now :)
